Azerbaijan Chess Championship (Men's and Women's)

The 2025 Azerbaijan Chess Championship for Men and Women will be held from January 31 to February 15.

In the men's competition, the members of the national team, the semifinalists from the previous Azerbaijan Championship, the top 14 highest-rated Azerbaijani chess players based on FIDE rankings, and 5 players with the best results in the First Division will be eligible to participate.

In the women’s competition, the national team members, the reigning national champion, the top 8 highest-rated Azerbaijani women chess players based on FIDE rankings, and 2 participants with the best results in the First Division will compete.

The championship will be organized according to the Olympic system. The tournament will be held in accordance with FIDE regulations and will consist of 5 rounds. Each match will consist of two classic games (with white and black pieces) and in the case of a draw, tie-breaks will be used. Registration for participants will take place from October 9 to 16, 2024.

The Azerbaijan Chess Federation (ACF) has also set a record prize fund for this championship. The prize fund for the men’s competition will be 60,000 AZN, and for the women’s competition, it will be 30,000 AZN. To make the competition more exciting, any player advancing without a tie-break in a classic game will earn an additional bonus prize.

The winner of the Azerbaijan Chess Championship will secure a place in the national team.

The new regulations aim to ensure the participation of the country’s strongest chess players in the Azerbaijan Championship.
